KARACHI:

Pakistan’s leading cement manufacturer DG Khan Cement accomplished the US standard for cement quality which helped fetch an agreement of export deal of 600,000 tonnes of cement to the United States.

DG Khan Cement Director Farid Fazal while briefing on the export agreement on Monday, said that DG Khan Cement has been exporting cement to Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, India and African countries since 1999.

After a long struggle, DG Khan Cement has achieved an agreement with the United States to export 600,000 tons of cement annually.

As per details, the company will ship 50,000 tons of cement to the United States monthly. The first shipment of 50,000 tons of cement will leave on Tuesday.

Fazal disclosed that the US officials had inspected the DG Khan Cement plant in detail before the export agreement and declared the production facility as one of the world’s top plants.

He further said that the United States is the world’s leading importer of cement which is open to the whole world.

At present, the country is in dire need of foreign exchange. Therefore, other cement producers should enter into export agreements that fulfill US standards.

DG Khan Cement managed to surpass the quality of cement desired as per American standards.

“It took six months to achieve the standard,” he said. “The cement has a specific strength with low rates of sodium and potassium”.

He further disclosed that the samples were tested in US laboratories and then certified.

Although the company has an export price of $60 per ton, it is sending an initial consignment to the United States at an introductory price of$50 per ton, said DG Khan Cement Director.

The company’s CFO Inayatullah Niazi underscored that DG Khan Cement exports an average of $80 million worth of cement every year.

The company has set a target of earning $100 million in foreign exchange from cement exports in the next financial year.

It should be noted that the US development budget for this year is $6 trillion, but due to environmental issues in the United States, new cement plants are not being allowed, due to which the demand for cement in the United States has increased.

KPT Chairman Syed Syedin Raza also lauded DG Cement’s achievement and congratulated the company for finalising a deal for the export of 50,000 tons of cement to the United States.
