Gaza Raids: Abbas calls for UN meeting

The European Union, Russia, the United States and the United Nations urged the region’s key players to hit the brakes.

Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas on Saturday called for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council as world powers warned of a “risk of escalation in three days of deadly fighting over Gaza. The European Union, Russia, the United States and the United Nations urged the region’s key players to hit the brakes -- but shortly afterwards, an Israeli man died under rocket fire from Gaza claimed by radical militants Israel blames for eight deaths on Thursday.
