Polling schedule for Senate seat revised

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday revised the election schedule for the vacant Senate seat reserved for technocrats and Ulema from Sindh.

According to a notification issued in this regard, polling will be held on July 6, and the commission has called upon the members of the provincial assembly to elect a member from Sindh.

It is worth recalling here that the seat was vacated after the death of Dr Sikandar Mandhro.

The commission has fixed the dates for the nomination of candidates, the scrutiny of nomination papers, the last date for withdrawal of candidature, and polling.

As per the schedule, nomination papers can be filed from June 17 to June 22, with their names being published on June 23.

The last date for scrutiny of the nomination papers is June 24, and the last date for filing appeals in this regard will be June 25.

The appeals will be disposed of by June 28 and the final list will be published on June 29, after which the candidates will have one day to withdraw from the election.

Once this process is through, the polling will be held at the Sindh Assembly building from 9 am to 4 pm.

The commission has also appointed Sindh Election Commissioner Ejaz Anwar Chauhan as the returning officer alongside four other polling officers for the said election.
