Yasir Hussain, Ayesha Omar's 'Javed Iqbal' to screen at Berlin Film Festival

'Javed Iqbal: The Untold Story of a Serial Killer' is yet to be released in Pakistan

After the 'world premiere' at the UK Asian Film Festival in May, Yasir Hussain's biopic on Pakistan's notorious serial killer, Javed Iqbal, is all set to screen at the Berlin Film Festival! The Abu Aleeha directorial will be shown at the prestigious film festival, Ayesha Omar announced on social media.

Congratulating her cast and director, the Bulbulay star shared screenshots of the post where the Berlin Film Festival had made the announcement.

Previously, Javed Iqbal: The Untold Story of a Serial Killer, received two awards at the UK Asian Film Festival. Hussain expressed gratitude and penned, "Bohot mubarak ho Pakistan. Javed Iqbal ko UK Asian film festival mai 2 awards mily. (Many congratulations, Pakistan. Javed Iqbal received two wards at the UK Asian Film Festival). One for me (best actor) and one for my director, Abu Aleeha - (best director) Alhamdulillah."

The Lahore Se Aagay director also thanked for the feat while lamenting how his own people can't recognise noteworthy content.

"Yeh bohot fakhar ki baat hai k UK Asian film festival hamari movie ko itni izzat de raha hai magar afsos hai k hum kabhi apna content aur apny log pehchan nahi paaty. (It's a matter of great pride that the UK Asian Film Festival has honoured our film but sadly, sometimes our own people cannot recognise local content)," he penned on Instagram.

In January, a day before its theatrical release, Javed Iqbal was stopped from screening by the Punjab government and the Central Board of Film Censors (CBFC). The film on Pakistan's notorious killer was halted for release in cinemas nationwide.

Censor Board insiders had confirmed to The Express Tribune at the time that they had previously not banned the film but had suggested a few cuts and beeps. However, when they went to the premiere, they saw the film being screened unedited and uncut. The Board insiders were willing to call a full board to reconsider the film but they haven't received any request from the makers in writing.
