ABBOTABAD:

Galiyat Action Committee (GAC) comprising of elders, political leaders, local body government members, lawyers and social activists of various villages lashed out at the authorities and urged them to provide basic facilities to the rural population.

Speaking at a news conference in Abbottabad, headed by a former candidate for National Assembly and Chairman Galiyat Action Committee M. M Rashid Awan, who said, “Khyber Pakhtunkhawa government created a new police force for tourist areas of the province but for Galiyat region they made recruitments of outsiders in Tourist police by neglecting the young educated people of Galiyat.

This is a sheer injustice and discrimination with the people of Galiyat on the part of the government," he said, adding that in the past outsiders were also recruited in Galiyat Development Authority and always neglected the due right of employment of the people of Galiyat in their own area.

The members of GAC also highlighted the problems being faced by the people of their respective rural communities. They said that elected representatives from the area were not interested in addressing the problems of the rural population in communication, health, education and other sectors.

The speakers noted that the area was deprived of basic needs as no proper funds were allocated for mega projects in Galiyat, which create a sense of deprivation among people.
