Remembrance: Hospital blast victims’ memorial ceremony held
The blast took place on August 19, 2008, was the first suicide attack to take place at a hospital in the country.
A memorial ceremony to honour the victims of a suicide blast at District Teaching Hospital in Dera Ismail Khan was held on Friday.
The blast, which took place on August 19, 2008, was the first suicide attack to take place at a hospital in the country. As a result of the attack, 34 people lost their lives, while 50 others were injured.
The ceremony was attended by a large number of people, including the relatives of 20 deceased and 25 injured who belonged to the same family.
The speakers expressed deep shock and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the incident. They said such acts of terrorism would never detract the nation from its struggle to restore peace in the society.
They urged the government to bring the perpetrators of the attack to book so that justice could be served to the families of the victims.
The speakers noted that the provincial government had announced a compensation for those who were injured in the blast, however, the amount is yet to be released by the government.
They also requested the government to provide employment to those who have been disabled due to terrorist activities in the country.
