Farhan Akhtar is grateful to Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy for guiding him through 'Ms Marvel'
Bollywood actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar is expressing gratitude to Pakistani filmmaker and Oscar-winning director Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy for helping him overcome hurdles during his Ms Marvel shoot.
The actor was previously announced to be part of the cast of Disney Plus’ upcoming series. According to Deadline, details regarding the character are under wraps, though his participation has been couched as a guest-starring role.
Taking to Instagram, Akhtar, while addressing the Saving Face director, shared, "The post is in appreciation of the creators, the directors and all those in front and behind the camera, who collaborated to make Ms Marvel what it is.” The Bollywood star then went on to give a special shout-out to Obaid-Chinoy and added, “It is in appreciation of Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy for her guidance through my days of working on it.”
He then went on to share his appreciation for Marvel itself and penned, “It is in appreciation of Marvel. I’m proud to be part of their conscious inclusiveness. This show is a celebration of diversity and it certainly will bring joy and pride of self-identity to millions of young girls and boys of the sub-continent.”
He concluded his post by saying, “And last but not least, it is in appreciation of the wonderfully talented Iman Vellani. Be prepared to be thoroughly entertained and effortlessly charmed by her. Thank you and good luck, team Ms Marvel.”
Akhtar is currently helming Jee Le Zaraa, starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif. He also has a multi-year partnership with Netflix via his and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Mumbai-based Excel Entertainment.
Ms Marvel episodes are directed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon and Obaid-Chinoy. Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso and Bisha K. Ali are the executive producers. Ms Marvel is set to premiere on June 8 and introduces Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, aka the titular character, who is a Muslim American teenager growing up in Jersey City.
Last year, it was speculated that the actor has apparently bagged an international project with Marvel Studios and unconfirmed sources had said that he has started shooting for the project in Bangkok, Thailand, even though Disney, who owns Marvel Studios, had refused to comment on the matter.
