AVLC, SSU police arrest 10 suspected gangsters in Pak Colony shootout

A search of the den turned up numerous vehicles, drugs, ammunition

KARACHI:

Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) and Special Security Unit (SSU) police arrested 10 suspected gangsters and recovered weapons, bulletproof jackets, drugs and stolen motorcycles from them in a raid at a hideout in the Pak Colony area on Tuesday.

According to AVLC SSP Muhammad Tariq Nawaz, police constantly received reports that a gang of criminals was running a drug den in the Pak Colony where they were also dealing in stolen motorcycles.

"The lair of the gangsters was fortified with men carrying automatic weapons, besides that the gang had its own 'patrol squad' with gunmen making rounds of the neighbourhood," he said.

The police party was met with stiff resistance, however, they went on and captured the den, SSP Nawaz said.

A search of the den turned up 20 stolen motorcycles, 50 motorcycle chassis, 5,000 grams of high-quality hashish, heroin, heroin capsules, 1 bulletproof vest, 3 Kalashnikovs, 11 repeaters, 5 sniper rifles and more weapons and ammunition were recovered.

The arrested accused include Gul Ahmed, Feroze, Asher, Rafi, Sharif, Zubair, Tanveer, Hassan, Arif and Yaqub. SSP Nawaz said that the arrested and escaped suspects were habitual criminal elements.

The drug den had been operating for some time.

Lyari gang war criminals ran the drug den, which also was a nuisance for the residents of the area.
