Police, lawyers discuss May 25 violence

CCPO says lawyers problems would be solved on a priority basis

Capital City Police Officer Bilal Siddique Kamyana called on Supreme Court Bar Association President Chaudhry Ahsan Bhoon and Pakistan Bar Council Vice Chairman Hafeezur Rehman Chaudhry at Lahore High Court on Monday and agreed on the need for increasing cooperation to enhance the delivery of justice.

Both sides agreed to strengthen their working relationship through mutual understanding and coherence. Ahsan Bhoon said lawyers had high expectations from CCPO Kamyana who had also remained a member of the Lahore High Court Bar Association and was the son of a prominent lawyer.

Bhoon expressed concern over the alleged violence of some police personnel against lawyers during the recent law and order situation on May 25 in the provincial capital.

He also mentioned incidents of targeted killing and assassination of lawyers in recent past. Kamyana said the interests of the lawyer community were paramount for him.

He said he condemned the unlawful violence against lawyers. Representatives of the legal community should sit down with the Lahore police and identify the perpetrators of violence in the light of CCTV footage and evidence so that strict action would be take action accordingly.

The city police commander said the problems of the lawyers would be solved on a priority basis and a liaison committee consisting of senior police officers and representatives of lawyers would be formed soon. The SSP fr security will be the focal person of the committee.
