Police launch three intelligence-based operations to curb street crime

KARACHI:

Police launched three intelligence-based operations against gangs of street criminals in the early hours of Sunday.

 Acting on information gathered by the cops in civvies, police arrested seven people on charges of mugging, armed robbery and motorcycle snatching.

 Bilal Colony police arrested Michael gang members Babar and Arbaz Khan, allegedly involved in street crime and motorcycle lifting incidents.

 During interrogation, the arrested accused confessed to the crimes they committed in the Central and West Districts.

 Police also recovered more than five stolen motorcycles from them.

 The suspects confessed to selling motorcycles to prominent drug dealer Mulla Mumtaz in the Chiko Bagh area of Hub Town of Blochistan which borders Karachi.

 They used to exchange stolen bikes for drugs and sell the narcotics in Karachi.

 The drug dealer, paid a paltry sum of Rs8,000 for a two-wheeler.

 Police have carried out raids to arrest other accomplices and facilitators of the accused.

 Meanwhile, Gulistan-e- Jauhar police arrested three members of the so-called Rickshaw Gang.

 Police claimed to have recovered illegal weapons and a rickshaw from the suspects, Ghulam Rasool, Ghulam Hussain, and Javed.
