Neighbourhood women arrested along with suspected drug peddler
Four women trying to wrest free a drug trafficking suspect from police mobile ended up behind bars in the Mominabad police station as the mobile driver drove off with them all the way to precinct- no brakes allowed.
As per police, the resident of poverty-hit neighbourhood of Iranian Camp in Asia's largest slum of Orangi Town attacked a police squad when it came to arrest a man, Fida Hussain, a fugitive wanted to the law in case of drug trafficking.
The residents, mostly immigrants from Afghanistan and north-western Balochistan, claimed that police have wrongly implicated Hussain and surrounded the mobile.
Police, had put the handcuffed Hussain in the mobile, but sensing the growing anger of the crowd, practiced restraint and tried to calm the situation.
However, the locals attacked the police, tore the uniform of Constable Danish, who also suffered a minor injury to head.
Meanwhile, women rushed into the squad vehicle and tried to drag Hussain out.
There was no policewoman in the mobile.
The constables seemed helpless because a male official hitting a female suspect could become a case against the police.
However, the mobile driver used their presence of mind and took the squad vehicle full speed ahead all the way to Mominabad police station.
Once safely at the precinct, police booked Fida Hussain for drug trafficking and the four women, who had jumped to his rescue as his accomplices.
SHO said, "Police have filed a case against the arrested accused and the women under provisions of assault and attack on the police, forcefully targeting police officers, attempting to chase the detained accused, and threatening policemen.
"According to Mominabad police station SHO Gul Awan Gul Awan, the additional SHO had arrested Fida Hussain a few days ago, but the police were attacked during the arrest, and the accused escaped from police custody.
Gul Awan said that Fida Hussain and three of his sons are also involved in drug trafficking.
Arrested ladies have been sent to a women's police station.
Police registered a case and started an investigation.
