HYDRABAD:

A group of women entrepreneurs has established the Hyderabad Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HWCCI), vowing to support glass bangles, handicrafts, and textile industries that involve both female labourers and entrepreneurs.

At a press conference at Hyderabad Press Club on Sunday the HWCCI elected President Shahida Ghulam Rasool, Senior Vice President Sadaf Raza and Vice President Rozina Memon delineated the future plans of the chamber.

"Women have been playing a pivotal role in the growth of the export-oriented industries like textiles and handicrafts," observed Rasool. She said one of the objectives of forming HWCCI is to unite businesswomen as well as women workers in order to create new opportunities for them.

Hyderabad was the sixth largest city of Pakistan; its handicrafts and textile industries were famous all over the world, she added. Rasool said that the purpose of establishing the chamber was to unite the women of Hyderabad and create new opportunities for them.

According to her, they have been organising seminars, conventions, and festivals for the last two years to set the foundation of the chamber. She told the media people that 200 businesswomen from Hyderabad took part in setting up the chamber.

Rasool apprised that they have submitted an application to the Directorate General of Trade Organisations, Islamabad, for issuance of licence to the chamber and expressed hope of acquiring the license before long. She added that soon the chamber will also launch its website.

Memon said the government should support the chamber to help encourage entrepreneurship among women. "We want to ensure that the women work with confidence and equal rights along with men in every sector of the economy."

Rasool thanked Hyderabad Commissioner Nadeemur Rehman, Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce, Small Chamber and Qasimabad Business Forum for their encouragement in the formation of HWCCI.

The office of the HWCCI will be located at Al-Abbas Housing Society, London Town, Qasimabad.
