Measures taken to avoid incidents like Abbottabad raid, says Defence Secretary

Defence Secretary also says that the country's defence policy was revised recently.

ISLAMABAD:
Defence Secretary Lieutenant General (r) Syed Athar Ali said effective measures have been adopted to avoid incidents like Abbottabad in future, Express 24/7 reported on Saturday.

Ali was briefing the judicial commission probing the May 2 US raid in Abbottabad. The commission meeting was chaired by Justice (r) Javed Iqbal at the Cabinet Division in Islamabad.

Ali told that the defence policy of the country was revised after the detailed discussion at joint staff headquarters.

Commission will now meet after the Eid vacations.

Members of the commission are likely to visit the said compound in Abbottabad to collect the evidences and information from the local population regarding the presence of the al Qaeda chief in the area.

As reported earlier, the judicial commission had directed the interior ministry and the intelligence agencies to withhold the repatriation of Bin Laden’s family and that it should not be done without the commission’s consent.

The formation of this commission was proposed in a unanimous resolution passed by the joint session of parliament on May 13 earlier this year.
