First free-of-cost open heart surgery performed at SICVD

Hyderabad becomes the fifth major city to have this facility in province

KARACHI:

The Sindh Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (SICVD) has achieved another milestone to start free of cost heart bypass surgeries at SICVD Hyderabad on Tuesday when cardiac surgeons Professor Dr. Rizwan Memon and Professor Fazl-e-Rabi along with anesthesiologist Professor Amin Khuwaja performed first open heart surgery.

With the first successful surgery at SICVD Satellite Centre, Hyderabad became the 5th city to have such facility in the province.

Doctors have termed the facility a good omen for residents of Hyderabad and adjoining areas. They said people of these areas used to travel to Karachi or other big cities for treatment of cardiac ailments but now they will be able to avail state of the art cardiac treatment closer to their homes totally free of cost.

The doctors said that the first open heart surgery at Hyderabad centre has been performed on a female patient aged 18 years from Matiari district. The patient is stable and recovering, they said, adding, when the patient was informed that she would be operated upon near her home she was overwhelmed with joy.

The surgeons maintained that this is a big achievement of SICVD to perform first open heart surgery at Hyderabad 100 per cent free.

With initiation of this cardiac surgery facility, we will be able to provide comprehensive cardiology care to patients. SICVD aims at providing specialised care to each and every patient particularly the needy ones.

The surgeons added that SICVD Hyderabad, a 140-bed specialised facility, has treated around 0.3 million patients free of cost since inception and performed 6,378 primary angioplasties.

Moreover, paediatric services have also started. SICVD Hyderabad follows international standard in terms of healthcare and provides all basic and major cardiac healthcare services.
