Lahore High Court’s Chief Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti, seeking replies from quarters concerned including the Chief Secretary, allowed the Advocate General Punjab Ahmad Awais to continue work in his office.
The CJ Bhatti was hearing a matter wherein the provincial government’s conduct of restraining AGP from rendering his services had been challenged.
As proceedings commenced, the CJ Bhatti asked the Additional Advocate General Jawad Yaqoob under which law the secretary law could entrust him the powers of the AGP. To which the law officer told the court that AGP Awais is still the AGP but the AGP is not following the government’s interest.
The CJ Bhatti observed that something be submitted in black and white. The CJ further observed that the government may only ask someone to appear in this or that case but it does not mean that charge of the AGP could be entrusted to someone through adopting illegal measures.
