Private firm gets Pirwadhai bus stand’s security contract
The Rawalpindi Metropolitan Corporation (RMC) has accepted the decision to hand over the entire security system of the Pirwadhai General Bus Stand to a private security firm to ensure passengers' safety and property.
Sources said that given the increasing number of theft and robbery incidents, it has been decided to hand over the security of the bus stand to a private firm.
According to the sources, the private security firm will install metal detectors, walk-through gates at main locations and closed-circuit cameras to ensure security at the bus stand. A control room will also be set up to keep an eye on the movement of vehicles and people.
The sources said that 12 security guards will be deployed in the initial phase by the security firm. The contract has been awarded to the firm for one year and it will be extended after evaluating the performance of the security company.
The sources said that the security of the bus stand will be handed over to the security firm on June 8. Currently, the Pirwadhai bus stand does not have a security system.
The Pirwadhai general bus stand spreads over 207 kanals of land and has 36 bays, two petrol filling stations, 800 shops, four hotels, one canteen, two bank branches, a police check post and a post office.
The bus stand was constructed in the late 1970s on the directives of former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto to cater to the needs of the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
