Earlier, this month Pakistan's first Grammy-winning artist, Arooj Aftab, was invited by US President Joe Biden to the White House at a reception to celebrate Eid al-Fitr. The Mehram crooner spoke alongside Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. During her speaking portion, the Grammy-winning performer, who was born in Pakistan, read The Promise by Rumi, a 13th-century Sufi mystic and poet.
Clad in a stunning dark heavily embellished jacket and matching pants, Aftab exuded power. Now, it has been revealed that her outfit was designed by none other than the celebrated local designer, Hussain Rehar. Taking to Instagram, the couturier shared, "Arooj Aftab making the nation proud."
He added, "[By] winning Grammy for a spectacular song that has won the hearts of millions and delivering speech alongside the US President at the White House at the event of Eid ul Fitr bringing light to The Promise by Rumi, a 13th-century Sufi mystic and poet."
He concluded with, "I'm so grateful to have been able to design a perfect fit for her for this memorable occasion. You go, girl! All the love, always and forever!"
It should be noted that Rehar also designed another of Aftab's jackets, which she previously wore to the Grammys afterparty. Rehar had then congratulated the artist and divulged how he created a look for the singer which took over 350 hours to make!
"You rule! What a great accomplishment, Arooj Aftab," the celebrated designer shared on Instagram. He went on to add, "I cannot express how thrilled I was to design this quintessential sherwani for her, which is inspired by her very own album ‘Vulture Prince’."
Detailing how the outfit came together, Rehar revealed, "The artwork on it looks like a trippy motif from afar but if you look closely it is constructed with different sized birds intricately embellished and put together with sequin, thread and mukesh detailing in various colours." He further shared, "It was created in about 350 working hours with keen attention and precision. And I must say, she absolutely rocked this look!"
