At least one Pakistan Army soldier was martyred when a military convoy was hit by an improvised explosive device (IED) in the neighbourhood of Makeen, South Waziristan district, the military’s media wing said on Thursday.

The martyred soldier was identified as 39-year-old Havaldar Muhammad Sanwar, resident of Jehlum, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

The clearance operation is being carried out to eliminate any terrorists in the area, it added.

Separately, the ISPR said that the security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Mir Ali, North Waziristan district on May 17 (Tuesday).

He remained actively involved in terrorist activities against security forces,” it added.

Similarly, security forces killed two wanted terrorists of the proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) during an operation in North Waziristan district's Boya area, the ISPR stated in a press release earlier this week.

According to the military, the operation took place between the night of May 16 and 17.

"The slain terrorists were identified as commander Rashid alias Jaber and Abdul Salam alias Chamto," the ISPR said, adding that weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the killed terrorists.

The ISPR added that the militants were involved in various terrorist activities in the area.
