Jayeshbhai Jordaar was expected to flourish at the box office due to the presence of famous actor Ranveer Singh. However, much to the dismay of audiences, critics and trade experts alike, the film has massively bombed at the box office, raking in a meagre INR15 crore in just five days. Having released across cinemas on May 13, the movie witnessed a poor opening of INR3.25 crore. It saw a marginal jump and earned INR4 crores the following day. It went on to earn INR4.75 on the third day of its release, rounding off the total weekend collections to INR12 crore, reported Bollywood Hungama.

Weighing on the reason behind the Jayeshbhai Jordaar’s flop, trade expert Taran Adarsh said, “The trailer is the first impression that we give out to the audience as to what to expect from the film. And the trailer was hardly exciting enough. Secondly, the makers narrated the entire story in the trailer itself. Thirdly, it’s a ‘jordaar’ (strong) concept but the writing is very ‘kamzor’ (weak).”

Trade analyst Atul Mohan explained, “There were a lot of flaws in the script. From the poster, it seemed like a fun, family film. But the trailer was weak. The subject was outdated.” He added, “Also when you have a title like Jayeshbhai Jordaar, you expect a dynamic character. Then, it would have made a difference. Lekin title mein ‘jordaar’ hai par dekhne jaao toh hero mein kuch bhi ‘jordaar’ nahi hai. That was a spoilsport.”

Girish Johar, producer and film business analyst, explained, “The content faltered big time. Also, the timing was wrong. This film was supposed to come two years earlier. During the pandemic, thanks to the rise of OTT, the audiences got exposed to worldwide content at the push of a button. The consumption patterns have changed drastically.”

Jayeshbhai Jordaar is a social comedy-drama written and directed by Divyang Thakkar. The film is produced by Aditya Chopra and Maneesh Sharma under Yash Raj Films. Ranveer plays the role of Jayeshbhai, a Gujarati man who fights patriarchy, while Shalini Pandey plays the female lead in the film. Boman Irani, Ratna Pathak Shah and Deeksha Joshi play supporting roles.
