CDWP clears four projects worth Rs71.4b
The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) cleared four development projects worth Rs71.4 billion during its meeting held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Dr Mohammad Jahanzeb Khan.
The CDWP cleared World Bank-funded “Punjab Resilient and Inclusive Agriculture Transformation” project at a total cost of Rs58.8 billion and recommended it to the Executive Committee of National Economic Council for approval.
The project will be implemented throughout Punjab over a period of five years. Phase-II of the project comprises some major components, which include community-driven improvement in water conveyance and application, promotion of climate-smart and high-value production, regenerative agriculture, crop diversification, agricultural value addition and inclusive access to market, monitoring, learning and emergency response.
The forum approved the establishment of NIHD at a total cost of Rs7.9 billion. It will be a state-of-the-art preventive research and development centre for cardio vascular diseases (CVD).
It will introduce advanced modalities of community-based preventive research and corresponding development of services/ products aimed at reducing the disease burden on society and cost-effective treatment of CVD.
The project will ensure a paradigm shift from therapeutics to prevention, thus reduction in the CVD burden on society, within the overall domain of non-communicable diseases.
The forum also approved the up-gradation of Nuclear Institute of Medicine and Radiotherapy (NIMRA), Jamshoro at a total cost of Rs1.2 billion. NIMRA is the first oncology and third nuclear medicine institute of Pakistan, established in 1965 aimed at providing cancer-related healthcare facilities to the residents of Jamshoro district and its surrounding areas.
