RDA seeks over Rs1.18t for projects

Funds sought for proposed Leh expressway, parking plaza, signal-free underpasses, RDA complex schemes

The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has proposed and sought over Rs1.18 trillion for ongoing and new development projects for the financial year 2022-23 under the Annual Development Programme (ADP).

The proposed new development schemes include phase-I of Nullah Leh Expressway and Flood Channel Project, construction of three more floors of the RDA parking plaza, Liaqat Bagh and Murrir Chowk signal-free underpasses and the RDA complex project.

The ongoing development schemes include the Rawalpindi Ring Road project, the land acquisition for the Leh expressway project, the remodelling of Kachehri Chowk and the establishment of the Project Management Unit.

Over Rs1.40 billion have been sought for the ongoing development schemes while an amount of over Rs1.8 trillion have been demanded for the newly proposed development schemes.

Of the Rs26969.70 million for the Rawalpindi Ring Road, Rs1200 million have been proposed for the new year, Rs24.960 billion for land acquisition of Leh Expressway and Flood Channel, Rs4,579.540 million for re-modelling of Kachehri Chowk and Rs95 million has been proposed for the establishment of the Project Management Unit (PMU).

Similarly, Rs10 million have been sought for the installation of LED lights at Chaklala Cantonment Board's Ward No-1 to Ward-6 and union councils of the city and adjoining areas.

Similarly, Rs108.2 billion projects have been proposed in ADP for the new fiscal year 2022-23. Among them, Rs46.961 million has been sought for the construction of a 9.80 km long route of Nulla Leh Expressway from Ammar Shaheed Chowk to Katarian Bridge.

Furthermore, Rs 425.95 million have been sought for the second, third and fourth-floor construction of the RDA parking plaza at Fawara Chowk.

Similarly, Rs4,722 million have been sought for the construction of signal-free underpasses at Liaqat Bagh and Murrir Chowk and Rs297 million have been sought for the construction of a complex at the RDA old building in the first phase.

A sum of Rs90 million have been sought for the construction of multi-storey apartments for RDA employees in Civil Lines and Rs70 million have been proposed for the construction of a multistorey commercial building in Sherpao Colony in the first phase.

The ADP schemes also included the construction of shops on RDA lands, construction and repair of squares, roads and streets infrastructure etc.
