I used to feel judged and caged: Ranveer Singh on his fashion sense

The actor says he expresses himself through his sartorial choices

Actor Ranveer Singh opened up about his extravagant and flamboyant fashion sense in a recent Q&A session with fans. The actor admitted that at one point in his life, he did feel judged on the basis of his appearance and dressing sense but he remains unfettered by criticism now, reported Hindustan Times. While conversing with his Twitter fans, the actor also revealed that he prefers a colourful palette when it comes to his sartorial choices.

A fan compared Ranveer’s dressing sense to the colourful and extravagant costumes seen at the annual Met Gala. “Ranveer Singh's been doing met gala everyday for all these years,” tweeted the user. Reacting to it, Ranveer admitted that he didn’t know what to make of it but added that he expresses himself through fashion. He said, “I used to feel cagey about expressing myself. I felt judged. I would alter my way of being in accordance with the effects those judgments were having on me. At one point, I let that go. I was like, people are going to judge anyway so you do you, dress the way you want and I'm glad that I have been able to evolve into a person who does that consistently now.”

When a fan asked him the ‘secret’ behind his dressing sense, the actor said it is just who he is and not a persona he is trying to create. “It's not like I have plotted this persona being flamboyant in the way I dress or anything. It's just me. I love wearing colours. I love things that are bright and vibrant. I have come to realise over a period of time I am more attracted to the maximalist school. But when it comes to spaces, like a home or vanity van, I like it all to be very minimal, almost painfully minimal,” he replied.

Ranveer is soaring high on the release of his latest film Jayeshbhai Jordaar. The film, directed by Divyang Thakkar, sees him in the role of a simple man from Gujarat fighting his conservative family to save his unborn daughter. The film also stars Shalini Pandey, Boman Irani, and Ratna Pathak Shah.

Earlier this week, the actor penned heart-warming messages for his Jayeshbhai Jordaar's co-stars and team after a special screening of the film. Taking to Instagram, the 83 actor dropped pictures with the cast with a special message for each including Ratna Pathak Shah. The 36-year-old star shared several pictures with Shah, writing, “A special and emotional post-screening moment with the legendary thespian Ratna Pathak Shah.” The caption for the second image read, “She's proud of what we've created.”

On the third picture with his reel life mother, he wrote, “I cherish the bond with my onscreen mumma. One of the greatest actors I have had the privilege of collaborating with and learning from."

The actor also paid tribute to Boman Irani, who plays the role of his father in the comedy drama. "The most extraordinary man! He is rare. One of a kind,” Ranveer shared. “I am so lucky to be sharing screen space with him. True artist. Beautiful human being!”

In his last post, Ranveer wrote, "What we all experienced in that room after the cast and crew screening was the stuff of magic. The warmth and fondness exchanged was testament to the sheer heart we poured into this piece of work! We hope you like it!"
