Criminal gangs to be profiled: IGP

IGP assigns task to supervisory officers, to effectively counter organized crime

LAHORE:

Punjab Police has decided to profile major gangs involved in robbery, kidnapping for ransom, murder and other organised crimes throughout the province.

The decision was made during a high level meeting chaired by the Inspector General of Punjab Police (IGP) Rao Sardar Ali Khan at Central Police Office (CPO) on Thursday.

The IGP assigned the task to supervisory officers in order to effectively counter organized crime. He directed that after profiling, concrete steps should be taken to root out habitual criminals and their facilitators involved in serious crimes.

The IGP emphasised upon launching a pilot project this month and ordered inter-district coordination for the arrest of organized gangs in Sheikhupura, Kasur, Nankana and Okara districts. He further stated that the Safe City Authority, Special Branch and Investigations departments should coordinate and take effective measures to round criminals up.

The IGP said attention should be paid to the movement of gangs and their facilitators.
