CM seeks traffic, beautification plans
Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz on Wednesday demanded a plan within a week for traffic management in Lahore and other major cities, as well as a beautification scheme for the metropolis within four days.
He said while chairing a meeting on managing traffic in Lahore that a comprehensive line of action should be devised to deal with the issue.
He said a plan should be finalised within seven days for traffic management in Lahore and other major cities.
The CM said inconvenience caused to the citizens due to traffic jams must be avoided.
No urban planning has been done in Lahore, which is causing traffic problems, he regretted and directed the inspector general of police present a feasible plan for the promotion of traffic wardens at the earliest. He also tasked the commissioner of Lahore to formulate recommendations for improving civic matters and the flow of traffic. He said an organised traffic system is a conspicuous symbol of civilised society.
He said the relevant departments are duty-bound to save the citizens from traffic problems and they would have to deal with the traffic challenges arising due to the increase in population.

Senator Rana Maqbool Ahmad, the CCPO and DC of Lahore, transport secretary and LDA director general were among those present on the occasion.
While issuing instructions in another meeting for the preparation of a Lahore beautification plan within four days, the chief minister said certified tree data of the city should also be compiled.
Meanwhile, British High Commissioner Christain Turner on Wednesday felicitated Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz on assuming the office and said his country’s cooperation with the Punjab government in the education, health and other social sectors would continue. The diplomat said the England cricket team would visit Pakistan in September. The CM said on the occasion, “It is our mission to make Pakistan an enlightened and progressive country.”
