KARACHI:

Hours after former prime minister Imran Khan said he would "liberate Sindh" from Asif Zardari, provincial Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the province won't give any weightage to the narrative.

"The people of Sindh are politically aware and they know what decisions they should make," Memon said in a statement.

He added that the people of the province won't fall into the trap of a "cunning man and a liar."

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader reminded Imran of how the people of Sindh defeated his candidates in the 2018 general elections.

"You may try your luck but the people of the province won't be giving you any weightage," he maintained.

On the other hand, he said, even the worst opponents of the former president approved of his political wisdom and decisions. "You can't save yourself by levelling allegations against your rivals," he told Imran Khan.

Earlier today, Imran lashed out at PPP leaders, saying that he would soon visit Sindh and rid the province of former president Asif Zardari.

"I am coming to Sindh and I promise to the nation that I will liberate the province from Asif Ali Zardari," Imran told a public gathering in Jhelum.

He vowed to hold Zardari as well as the party's chairman Bilawal Bhutto for 'suppressing and looting' the people of the province.

“You have looted the nation and sent money abroad! I told you I will become more dangerous for you when not in power," Imran remarked.

‘Anti-state’ rhetoric

The PPP leader also took Imran to task over his ‘anti state’ rhetoric, saying he was bent on pushing the country towards unrest.

He claimed that the PTI chief didn’t accord any importance to the state or its institutions. “Imran Niazi thinks of himself as someone above the law and the Constitution.”

Sharjeel reiterated that the national leadership and the masses will respond sternly to the former premier’s 'anti-state' propaganda.
