LAHORE:

A 36-year-old doctor was shot dead at his house in the Kot Lakhpat area on Sunday.

According to the police, unidentified assailants barged into the home of Dr Fiyaz Hussain in a private housing society and shot him. He suffered fatal bullet injuries.

The deceased served in the orthopedic department at Lahore General Hospital (LGH). His wife reportedly is also a doctor.

He belonged to Layyah and had been living in Lahore for the past four years.

Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz took notice of the murder and sought a report from the Lahore capital city police officer (CCPO).

He called for arrest of the murderers at the earliest and provision of justice to the heirs of the murdered doctor.

The CCPO instructed the field officers to submit him a report about the incident.

Post Graduate Medical Institute (PGMI) Principal Dr Muhammad Al-fareed Zafar, while condemning the murder of Dr Hussain, demanded that the inspector general of police should constitute a team to arrest the killers at the earliest.

He said that Dr Hussain, who worked in the LGH, was murdered at his residence and the murderers must be brought to book as soon as possible after an investigation along modern lines.

Dr Zafar said doctors already risk their lives to serve humanity and a number of them were lost to coronavirus, dengue and other deadly diseases.
