Wheat procurement target hiked

Over 90% harvesting, 78% threshing completed

The wheat procurement target in Sargodha division has been increased from 270,000 to 334,000 tons.

Divisional Commissioner Nabil Javed revealed this while chairing a meeting on wheat procurement, price control mechanism and availability of fertilisers in the markets.

The meeting was attended by the deputy commissioners of all four districts in the division, Agriculture Director Faiz Ahmad Kundi, Local Government Director Asif Iqbal Malik, Food Department Deputy Director Dr Muhammad Zia and officials of the industry and market committee.

The meeting was informed that the wheat procurement target of Sargodha district had been increased from 80,000 to 99,000MT, Khushab from 20,000 to 24,791MT, Mianwali from 60,000 to 74,000MT and Bhakkar district from 110,000 to 136,000 metric tonnes.

As per the new wheat procurement target, 87% of sacks have been distributed among farmers so far while 70% of the procurement target has been achieved.

According to officials, 93% of the wheat harvesting and 78% threshing target in the division has been achieved.

The participants were informed that the price control magistrates had visited 26,948 places in the division during Ramazan, during which 61 shops were sealed due to irregularities. An amount of Rs9 million in fine was collected and 444 persons were arrested.
