First woman SHO of Khairpur shot dead

Police Inspector Zulekha Javed, the in-charge of women complaint cell of Sukkur Police DIG office, died under mysterious circumstances at her home near Khairpur.

Zulekha was the first woman SHO in Khairpur and remained posted at different police stations in the past few years.

Her husband has changed his statement twice, first he claimed that unidentified men barged into their home, shot her and fled, however, during police questioning, he stated that his gun accidently went off and the bullet hit Zulekha.

Zulekha was shifted to Civil Hospital Khairpur where she succumbed to her wounds.

Javed, husband of the deceased, told the police that two suspects had entered their house and fled after allegedly killing his wife. Later, he changed his statement and said he was cleaning his pistol when it went off and a bullet hit Inspector Zulekha accidentally.

The Khairpur Police have taken Javed into custody, saying a post mortem report would determine the cause of the death.
