PAKPATTAN:

A divorced woman was murdered by her brother in the Faridnagar area. The victim, Hamra Bibi, was bludgeoned to death with bricks. She had two children.

Police arrested the suspect. According to the police, the incident took place in Ganj Shakar Colony where Mohammad Riaz killed his sister by hitting her repeatedly with bricks, allegedly in the name of honour.

A heavy contingent of police reached the spot after the incident and a crime scene team gathered evidence. The police transferred the body to the district hospital for postmortem and began an investigation.

According to sources, the victim got divorce from her husband two years ago and was living in a rented house with her children. They alleged that her brother Riaz had argued with her several times over her personal life.

The suspect reportedly went to the home of the victim during Eid holidays and pressed her to reach a settlement with her former husband Ghulam Nabi. Her refusal enraged him.

After returning to his home later, he went again to his sister’s house and killed her. The suspect makes his living by selling goods on his bicycle. He reportedly tried to flee when Faridnagar police arrived at the spot, but was arrested.

Local police station officials said after initial investigation that the deceased had married Ghulam Nabi, a resident of village 1KB, 11 years ago. The couple quarrelled often during the period. They had a nine-year-old son and a seven-year-old daughter. Hamra Bibi took divorce from her husband two years ago.

The SHO of Faridnagar police station, Chaudhry Ehsan, registered the murder case after trying to trace the family f the deceased and the suspect with the help of the son and daughter of the victim.

The children called their uncles and other relatives, but no one contacted the police immediately. The police handed over the body to a brother of the deceased and the suspect after postmortem. They also obtained remand of the suspect from a court for further investigation.
