Minister says govt ensuring financial discipline through effective policies

ISLAMABAD:

The government is strictly committed to ensuring financial discipline through effective and farsighted policies for enhancing the overall growth of the country, remarked Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Miftah Ismail. In a meeting with a delegation of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) on Saturday, the minister underlined that macroeconomic stability “is the prime concern of the present government”.

“The government is targeting inclusive and sustainable economic growth by presenting a pro-people and business-friendly budget,” Ismail underlined, adding that the suggestions of all stakeholders would be given due consideration. Acknowledging the effective role of FPCCI in acting as a bridge between the government and traders, the minister commended the budgetary suggestions made by the FPCCI members for various sectors of the economy.

The delegation, led by FPCCI President Irfan Iqbal Shaikh, praised the minister for listening to their proposals and assured their support and cooperation in enhancing economic stability. During the meeting, the current economic situation was highlighted and the FPCCI president presented various proposals for consideration in the federal budget for 2022-23. Multiple measures were suggested for bringing greater efficiency to the industrial and agriculture sectors.

The delegation also deliberated upon the issues related to taxation faced by the business community. Furthermore, they requested the finance minister to consider their proposals and address the stated issues. Among others, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman and senior officers attended the meeting.
