Three injured during raid on shop
A former union council (UC) chairman protested outside People's Colony police station along with his supporters after his son and two nephews were thrashed and detained during a raid in Railway Colony.
Dozens of protesters blocked a road and chanted slogans accusing the police of highhandedness.
Police officers ordered medical examination of the three youths.
According to witnesses, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Riyasat Ali and several men in plainclothes raided a shop in the Railway Colony area falling in the jurisdiction of the People's Colony police station after receiving a report of gambling.
A scuffle took place hen Hasnain Raza Khan and Tauheed Raza Khan, nephews of for UC chairman Sharafat Ali Khattak, a resident of Lal Mill Chowk, asked the police about the reason for the raid.
The personnel allegedly hit both of them with pistol and gun butts and injured them.
Meanwhile, Khattak’s son Haris Raza also rushed to the shop. The ASI and his companions called Elite Force personnel after the situation worsened.
The Elite Force personnel hit Haris Raza Khan with pistol butts and sticks and also slapped him.
They took the three men to People's Colony police station.
After the incident, dozens of people, including Sharafat Khattak, gathered outside the police station and staged a protest sit-in, blocking the Jaranwala Road.
People's Colony Police Station SHO Muazzam Gujjar and other officers talked to the protesters after several hours of protest.
They promised release of the three detained youths and ordered their medical examination, on which the protesters dispersed.
Khattak alleged that policemen and civilians accompanying them had tortured his son and nephews. He said disciplinary action should be taken against those involved in the incident.
The area SHO claimed that the three youths had been injured while resisting a raid on a gambling den.
