RAWALPINDI:

After the Meteorological Department has issued a rain forecast from May 2 to May 4, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Rawalpindi has issued a red alert to cope with emergencies in view of heavy rains and high winds in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and surrounding districts during Eidul Fitr holidays.

Holidays of officers and personnel concerned had been cancelled to ensure the continued provision of drinking water throughout the Eid holidays. Employees have been assigned emergency duties to deal with the expected flood in 10 main channels, low-lying areas and underpasses across the city.

The WASA has also prepared a regular plan to supply enough water during Eid holidays and to remove standing water in low-lying areas. WASA Vice-Chairman Haroon Kamal Hashmi said that the organisation was aware of its obligations.

“There would be no lack of water during the Eid holidays in the city. Water supply from dams and tube wells will be maintained. WASA tankers will continue to deliver water to the affected areas,” he said adding that every complaint will be monitored by the duty officer and senior authorities through the WASA complaint cell.

“A motor of a tube well will be replaced within 24 hours in case of malfunctioning. All red alert employees and concerned officers will be present in the city in the event of severe rain,” he said.
