A policeman was killed when unidentified miscreants opened fire at him in the crowded Wana Bazaar in South Waziristan tribal district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on Thursday.
Police told The Express Tribune that a police official Aslam Javed Wazir who was deployed at the main Wana Bazaar was shot dead by the attackers who managed to escape after committing the crime.
“Police reached the spot soon after the attack and started a search operation but no one was arrested,” said a police official, adding that the dead body was sent for autopsy and investigation has been launched in the case.
In a separate incident, two children were injured in a land mine blast in Tehsil Sarwek of South Waziristan.
“Both the children are shepherds who were taking care of their flock when they stepped over a landmine buried in the ground,” said the official, adding that one was them Karimullah was 9 and Noorullah was six. They were rushed to the nearby camp of security forces for treatment.
It may be mentioned here that the area is notorious for landmines blasts which has claimed several previous lives.
