China strongly condemns KU terror incident, demands thorough investigation

ISLAMABAD:

China on Wednesday strongly condemned the terrorist attack that occurred yesterday inside the Karachi University, killing four people – three Chinese nationals and a Pakistani man.

"We strongly condemn the terrorist attack targeting Chinese teachers at [the] University of Karachi and express our condolences to the victims. Nothing will undermine China-Pakistan friendship,"  Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Hua Chunying said on Twitter.

On Tuesday, four people were killed in an attack by a female suicide bomber outside the Chinese language centre inside the university.

Four others, including a Chinese national and Rangers personnel, were also injured in the blast that ripped through a van carrying university teachers, Karachi police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon told the media at the scene of the attack.

During a press briefing earlier today, a Chinese spokesperson in response to a question about the incident said that China expressed "strong condemnation and indignation" over the attack. 

"Pakistani side should immediately make thorough investigation of the incident, apprehend and punish the perpetrators to the full extent of the law," he demanded.

'Perperatraorts to be arrested'

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah expressed his resolve to arrest the perpetrators of the Karachi terror incident and set a precedent.

According to a press release, the minister said that he was visiting Karachi today on the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

"The entire country expresses solidarity with Chinese brothers and it is our common grief. We will deal with it with full force as it is an attack on Pak-China friendship," he said adding that he would find out the facts in the meeting with the authorities concerned

Our great friend China will be kept fully informed about the progress of the investigation into the incident, he added.

The minister further added that the federal government will review all security apparatus for Chinese residents and will take effective measures after a thorough review of security.

"Every aspect will be carefully examined," he added. "the federal government will cooperate fully to bring the perpetrators to justice."
