8 robberies reported across Burewala
Robbers looted cash and valuables worth lakhs of rupees in eight separate incidents on Tuesday.
According to the police and locals, three alleged armed thieves snatched a motorcycle and Rs15,000 from citizen, Muhammad Shehzad, in limits of Model Town Police Station.
The second incident, reported in the limits of City Police Station at Luddan Road, saw robbers allegedly steal Rs10,000 and a motorcycle from citizen, Muhammad Tahir, a resident of Chhatta Mael.
Separately, two other robbers intercepted citizen, Zahid Ali, and held him hostage, taking cash and a mobile phone from him. At Chechawatni road meanwhile, Muhammad Murtaza, a resident of Azeemabad, was deprived of Rs10,000 and a smartphone.
Apart from the aforementioned cases, robberies were reported from different areas including PI Link Canal, Chak 521/EB, Chak No 371/EB, and Q-Block.
Citizens Muhammad Waseem, Muhammad Ali, and an unidentified woman were robbed of cash and valuables. Police are conducting raids to arrest the culprits.
It is not just Burewala where incidents of robbery have wreaked havoc, but one is amazed to learn that more than 1,500 robberies were committed in Gujranwala in the last two months.
Over 800 motorcycles were stolen. There were 76 incidents in which women were sexually abused. Those who were abused included minors as well.
Police claim to have registered more than 80% of cases, and the accused involved in those cases were arrested.
The way the crime wave has swept across the district in the last two and half months shows that the rate of crime might break previous records.
The crime wave has unnerved the people of the district. Fear reigns the district.
People wonder how they can defend themselves against armed robbers.
Whether it’s a factory or a shop or market nobody knows when an armed robber would appear and rob people of their hard earned money and valuables. So far Rs30 million has been looted by the robbers.
