14-year-old girl goes out for walk, gets kidnapped, raped by neighbour

Police arrest nominated suspect, victim's family says facing life threats

With a stark increase in the crimes against women and girls during the holy month of Ramazan, a teenage girl was abducted and raped by a neighbour in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal area of the city. Police have arrested the suspect and registered a case against him as per the law.

The family of the victim claims that the suspect, Alam Khan, was an influential person and his accomplices were threatening them with dire consequences. Police quoting the complaint said that the 14-year-old girl went for a walk from her flat on the night of April 13 but did not return to her home. The family of the missing girl searched for her everywhere but she was not found. The next day, on the night of April 14, she was found in the parking lot in a state of semi-consciousness. The parents of the girl immediately informed the police.

The police got the victim's medical examination conducted, which proved that she was raped by her kidnapper. The victim said that Alam Khan took her to his flat, where he tortured and raped her. The police arrested Alam Khan and also conducted a DNA test on him, the report of which is awaited.

The victim's father said that the suspect was very influential and his accomplices were hurling death threats to his family to squash the case. The family of the victim also expressed dissatisfaction over the police investigation and sent a request to the Karachi Police Chief to transfer the investigation of the case to another unit.
