RAWALPINDI/ISLAMABAD:

Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon on Saturday visited different markets and Ramazan bazaars to ensure the availability of flour and sugar to consumers at subsidised rates. He checked the display of rate lists of essential commodities, the quality of fruits, vegetables and other kitchen items.

He directed shopkeepers and stall-holders to prominently display rate lists, and instructed officers to ensure the cleanliness of the bazaars on a daily basis. He said to the media that the district administration on the directives of the federal government was ensuring a supply of 10 kg of wheat flour sack at Rs400 and sugar at Rs75 per kg. Sugar was being sold at Rs70 per kg at ‘Mobile Utility Stores’ stationed in different markets, he said.

He added that some 500 metric tonnes of sugar are available to provide for Islamabad residents at subsidized rates.

There was no sugar mill present in the jurisdiction of Islamabad while warehouses of whole sellers were being inspected to keep a check on hoarding, he said in response to a query.
