1.6 tonnes of rotten meat seized in joint operation
A team of the livestock department personnel and police officers seized a truck loaded with rotten chickens near Renala Khurd and arrested two accused and registered a case.
Livestock department Deputy Director Dr Haq Nawaz and police in a joint operation in Renala Khurd stopped a truck during a check-in, where rotten chicken carcasses were discovered loaded in sacks. They were being taken from Okara to Lahore via Renala. The joint team took action and arrested two accused Javed Masih and Kashif, transferring them to police custody.
During this time, 40 maunds, or 1.6 tonnes, worth of rotten chicken meat was recovered.
Dr Nawaz, while talking to The Express Tribune, said that the accused were involved in this nefarious business for a long time and rotten meat was supplied to different areas in Lahore.
The livestock team said the meat was destroyed under his supervision of Dr Saqib Majeed.
Police registered a case on the complaint of livestock officers and remanded both the accused to the police station, where they are being further investigated.
Dr Nawaz said the Livestock District team raided various locations and seized more than 3.6 tonnes of diseased and rotten animal meat over the last several months.
Apart from Okara, cases were also registered against accused in Renala Khurd, Saddar Renala Okara Circle and Depalpur Circle.
Dr Nawaz said that a meeting was also held with the District and Sessions Judge, Additional District and Sessions Judge and judges of the three tehsils with regards to the smuggling of rotten meat and they have been requested to not give bail to the accused involved.
“Instead, while taking action against them, they should be punished they should be given severe punishments,” Dr Nawaz added.
On the other hand, Sahiwal Division Commissioner Ali Bahadur Qazi commended the livestock team for their excellent performance and said that actions against such elements will be continued in the same manner.
