PESHAWAR:

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has released Rs80.16 million for Darul Uloom Haqqania, Nowshera despite allocating Rs60.66 million for it initially.

Funds were released for the construction of new academic blocks which is part of an agreement between the former chief minister Pervaz Khattak and the head of the Darul Uloom late Maulana Samiul Haq. Under the agreement, signed between the provincial government and Maulana Samiul Haq in 2016, modern education will be introduced at the well-known religious seminary in addition to the religious education.

The endower is being funded by the provincial government as the previous government has already provided large sums of Rs300 million and Rs270 million.

The agreement was signed on July 10, 2016 by the then provincial minister Shah Farman and Maulana Samiul Haq.

Maulana Samiul Haq agreed to start modern education at the seminary and government agreed to construct buildings for this purpose.

“Under the agreement the Taleemul Quran High School of the seminary was upgraded to degree college, Haqqania Institute of Modern Language (Arabic, English, Persian, French and Chinese) was established, Haqqania Teachers Training Institute, modern science laboratory, computer lab and the house of research and publishing was also established at the seminary,” said a government official while talking to The Express Tribune.

“Student scholarships, mathematics, science, social sciences, political science, international relations and geography classes are also part of the agreement and government has to construct new buildings for all these faculties,” he said.

It was also agreed that the seminary will assist in introducing modern education in all the religious seminaries in the province.

“As per the original agreement the government had to provide Rs557.59 million and it released the funds but the construction of buildings was still incomplete so the current government allocated Rs60.66 million but released Rs80.16 million instead.

The running expenditures of starting new classes and all other expenses will be met by the seminary from its own resources.
