Eid shopping at peak despite inflation
As Eid shopping is in full swing, sparkling illuminations around shopping centres, overcrowded roads and side lanes, and heavy rush in shopping areas are seen in the city.
Despite inflation, there was no decline in Eid shopping as citizens prepared themselves. Saddar, Commercial market, Moti Bazaar, Chan Bazar, Purana Qilla, Kartar Pura, Benazir Bhutto Road and other areas have seen the drove of people. Shops were full of customers, primarily women and children, until sehri.
The city administration, relevant departments and traffic police in collaboration with the shopkeepers association, have set up special complaint centres in major shopping areas in the city so citizens may complain about theft or pick-pocketing.

Children's items were in excessive demand because every family regardless of its financial position, prefers to purchase something for their young ones. Traders Association President Sharjeel Mir said it was a trend in our society that people usually shop more during Ramazan for Eidul Fitr because this was the only occasion traditionally celebrated by Muslims with great zeal.
He said this year the improved law and order situation has also reinforced shopping spree.
Meanwhile, Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Tahir Farooq on Thursday visited Kahuta Ramazan Bazaar and checked rate lists and availability of sugar, wheat flour and other essential commodities. According to a district administration spokesman, the official also checked the quality of fruits, vegetables and essential commodities and inspected the Agriculture Fair Price Shop.
