RAWALPINDI:

Philanthropists donated over Rs135 million in one hour during a fundraising event organised in connection with World Orphan Day at Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday.

Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Nadeem A. Rauf said around four million orphans in Pakistan are in need of housing, education, healthcare and food. “If these children do not get these basic rights, they won’t be able to become productive members of society and there is a possibility they become victims of crime.

Under an NGO, 20,000 children are currently being cared for in 18 aghosh centres, which are being provided with high-quality education, health, food and housing facilities. “The one who will patronise an orphan will be blessed by being in the company of the Holy Prophet (PBUH)’ and the goal was to make orphans successful members of society, through good sponsorship, education and upbringing in a better environment,” said the NGO’s president.
