'Love and Thunder' trailer reveals Natalie Portman as the new Thor

You just had to gasp when Jane Foster inexplicably wields Odinson's magical hammer, Mjolnir

The Mjölnir is swinging again! The first looks for Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson and Natalie Portman Marvel wonder is out. Thor: Love and Thunder marks the fourth installment of the superhero franchise and needless to say, one that fans are eagerly looking forward to.

The Taika Waikiki directorial sees Hemsworth return as the Odinson - sans the throne. In Avengers: Endgame, Thor passes over the reigns to Asgard to Valkyrie and moves on to a more quiet lifestyle. However, his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods.

To combat the threat, Odinson enlists the help of King Valkyrie, Korg (Taika Waititi), and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who — to his surprise — inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. And can we say, that's a sight we won't forget for a while!

Thor: Love and Thunder's new characters include Russell Crowe's Zeus and Christian Bale's Gorr the God Butcher, although the trailer revealed very little about either character. Though Zeus could be briefly glimpsed, there was no obvious sign of Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder's trailer, or any overt reference to his place within its story.

Hemsworth made his MCU debut in 2011 in the film simply titled Thor, after which he joined the Avengers. But his second solo film Thor: The Dark World, did no good to him and it’s often considered the worst film in the MCU so far. He then went through major changes in Waititi’s Ragnarok, which made way for the God of Thunder to return in a fourth solo production titled Thor: Love and Thunder.
