Violence, accidents take heavy toll in metropolis
Last week, the provincial metropolis was marred by reports of violent and tragic incidents.
The most disturbing incident of violence in the provincial capital was reported in Green Town on Friday in which a suspect shot dead his mother, father, sister, nephew, mother-in-law and sister of mother-in-law. His father-in-law was undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The suspect was reportedly an ice addict and was reportedly angered after an exchange of harsh words with his father, over possible admission to a hospital for mental health treatment. He also told police that he was angry with his family because they would torture and scold his children.
According to details, at around 08.30 am, the suspect had entered in a house in Bagrian where he shot dead his mother, father, nephew and sister. The suspect later drove a few kilometers away in Sheraz Town to his in-laws’ house.
In another incident reported on Wednesday, an 18-year-old youth had shot himself dead in Shadbagh.
On Tuesday, a suspected drug dealer was killed in a police encounter in Hanjarwal.
The deceased, identified as Faisal alias Faishoo, was an alleged drug dealer and was raided by a police team on Monday.
However, the suspect resisted and opened fire on the police party.
As a result, police constable Talib Hussain sustained gunshot wounds. The suspect managed to flee the scene.
Police stated that they received reports of three suspects looting citizens after setting up a picket. One of the suspects was Faisal. As the police team responded to the crime, a gunfight ensued.
The suspect Faisal received bullet injuries and died.
Separately, a man had stabbed his wife’s former husband in North Cantonment on Monday. Reportedly, the suspect married a woman after she divorced the victim.
The woman, after several years of marriage, reportedly asked for a separation and staying with her former husband.
This angered the accused, Zahid, who stabbed the victim with a knife.
On Monday, a man was injured by a kite string in Raiwind.
The victim, identified as Abdul Rehman, was riding a bike near Bahria Orchard in Raiwind when a kite string slashed his neck in the early hours.
At least seven people died in three road traffic crashes in the provincial capital on Monday.
The first case was reported in Ichra, where three teenage boys were killed after a Mazda ran over them.
The victims were reportedly riding a bike when the truck driver ran them down. The second incident was reported in Mangamandi, where four women were injured after a truck hit a rickshaw.
Two of the victims succumbed to their injuries and died on the spot.
The third incident was reported in Johar Town, where a car hit a motorcycle, leaving three boys injured. Two of them succumbed to their wounds.
