Fans think Alia's wedding saree seems eerily similar to an old Kangana outfit
The couple of the hour, Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor tied the knot in a dreamy white themed wedding on Thursday, April 14 in an intimate ceremony. People went gaga over the happy bride’s minimalist makeup and non-traditional sartorial choices. However, it seems like some fans are unhappy after they discovered a few similarities between her wedding dress and the saree that Kangana Ranaut wore to her brother's wedding in 2020.
The similarities put the celebrated Indian designer Sabyasachi on the spot as they made both Alia’s wedding dress and the saree that Kangana wore to her event. Resharing Kangana’s pictures from her brother Akshat’s wedding in 2020, fans made collages to point out the similarities.
A user wrote, "Alia Bhatt’s wedding dress has been worn by Kangana Ranaut ages back!!" Another one commented, “So Alia's wedding saree is inspired by this?”
Sabyasachi posted a picture of Bhatt from her wedding day as well.
Denying the comparisons, a user targeted the designer for not discussing the idea with the bride and giving Kangana an opportunity to diss Alia yet again. “No, their outfits are not the same, but eerily similar! Kangana’s is floral, while Alia Bhatt has butterflies and whatnot! But Sabyasachi is lazy AF! Can't believe they didn't run this by Alia Bhatt because no way would she choose something for her big day that would give more ammunition to Kangana to use against her,” read the tweet.
Kangana has never been a fan of Alia’s and has often called her a product of nepotism. At one instance, she also called her filmmaker Karan Johar's puppet. In 2019, Kangana had said it was “embarrassing” for her to be compared to Alia and even labelled her performance in Gully Boy as mediocre. More recently, Kangana slammed Alia’s performance in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali's directorial Gangubai Kathiawadi and referred to her as “daddy's angel” and “rom-com bimbo,” calling out the casting director.
