Bangladesh avoid Zimbabwe whitewash

Taylor ton in vain as tourists finally register a win on the tour.

BULAWAYO:

Bangladesh made the long-awaited breakthrough in their One-Day International (ODI) series against Zimbabwe by winning the fourth match by six wickets.

After dismissing the hosts for 199, Bangladesh cruised to score 203 for four avoiding a tour whitewash as Zimbabwe lead the five-match series 3-1. It was a welcome victory after their three previous ODI defeats and a Test reversal by the home side.

Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor held them together with his fourth ODI century, hitting one six and seven fours to reach 106 before a collapse held them back.

After a reasonable start by the openers, the tourists lost their way before the job was finished off by Shakibal Hasan, who scored 39 not out in a 74-run fifth-wicket partnership with Shivagoto Hom who made an undefeated 35.

The final ODI will be played on Sunday.
