Nurse, husband arrested for stealing millions from Sonam Kapoor
A nurse and her husband has been arrested in connection to Bollywood actor Sonam Kapoor and her husband Anand Ahuja’s New Delhi residence robbery. The theft was in stolen cash and jewellery worth INR14.1 million (Rs34 million). On Wednesday, police arrested two people – Aparna Ruth Wilson (30) and her husband Naresh Sagar (31). According to Hindustan Times, Wilson worked as a caretaker to help Ahuja’s mother and Sagar works as an accountant at a private firm in Shakarpur, said police.
Amrutha Guguloth, Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi), added that the suspect Aparna has worked at the house for a long time, which gave her access to the valuables there. "Wilson has undertaken home care duties on several occasions on the patient's requirement. This kept her close to the patient whose jewellery was stolen by the accused and later given to her husband. Her husband had also been arrested," she said.
As per ANI, a senior police officer said, "The Delhi Police Crime Branch along with a team of the Special Staff Branch of the New Delhi district conducted a raid in Sarita Vihar on Tuesday night. They apprehended Wilson and her husband, both 31 years old." The police added that they have been formally arrested. However, the stolen jewellery and cash are yet to be recovered, as per the police statement.
The theft took place two months ago in February but reports started surfacing in the media only yesterday, on April 8. According to Pinkvilla, investigations are underway to find the culprit behind the big robbery. Kapoor and Ahuja are currently in Mumbai, but their staff — 25 employees including nine caretakers, drivers, gardeners and other workers — are being questioned in the investigation.
Not just police but the Forensic Science Laboratories (FSL) were also involved in the case to collect all forms of evidence at the crime scene. However, while reports suggest they have suspects, a culprit isn’t found as of yet. Considering the media status of Kapoor and Ahuja, the case was kept under wraps.
The Veere Di Wedding actor’s inlaws, Harish and Pooja Ahuja lived in their New Delhi residence located in Amerita Shergill Marg — Delhi's costliest neighbourhood — along with Ahuja's grandmother Sarla Ahuja. The family lodged an official complaint about the crime on Feb 23 while they found out about the crime on Feb 11. Sarla was the first one to find her jewellery and cash missing. She informed the police that she last checked the stolen items in her cupboard two years ago.
