Illogical slur campaign
The neutrality of the armed forces in the ensuing political turmoil is a valued achievement. The establishment by refusing to take sides has exhibited immense wisdom. In fact, this policy has enabled the pillars of state to assert themselves, and the institutions have come out more strongly. The change of government on the floor of the house, and in a peaceful manner, has vitalised the supremacy of parliament. The no-trust motion has proved that political parties on either side of the divide are responsible, and conscious of the mandate as well as their vibrancy in the public domain. Thus, it seems to be an undesired campaign as vested interests are busy orchestrating against the institutions, and unnecessarily calling in question the wisdom of the armed forces and the judiciary.
What happened during the month-long episode since the submission of the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan is a democratic process in all sincerity and there isn’t much to read as to who played what role in the crisis. Suspecting foul play and furthering vendetta at the cost of national harmony is literally in bad taste.
The Formation Commanders have taken a stand and have rightly stood behind their leadership. This is the strength of the armed forces and, indeed, they are the custodians of the state. Pakistan is secure and impregnable today only because of the invincibility of the armed forces, and this national institution should never be dragged into politics. The prevalent social media slur is not only irrational but also devoid of logic. It merely seems to be a ploy in the hands of misguided and myopic people, who are far away from serenity and unnecessarily getting judgmental.
Pakistan is in need of reconciliation. The persisting political discord is no solution to the challenges that the country faces, and is unnerving it with each passing day. There may be valid reservations in the political context, and it would be wise if they are addressed in a sophisticated democratic manner. Pushing the country towards instability and spitting venom against sacrosanct institutions is literally an anti-state activity. The law should take its course against such unscrupulous elements.
