Body worn cameras made mandatory for front desk officers
Under Complaints Management System (CMS) introduced some six years back by the Punjab Police, the front desk officers will be wearing body worn cameras (BWCs) aimed to ensure people-friendly policing and polite dealing with the visitors and complaints.
These cameras will be integrated with the Punjab Safe City Authority (PSCA) control room and other officers like Central Police Office (CPO).
Using these cameras, the behaviour, response and treatment of the officers toward the public visiting police stations would be gauged.
In this regard, on Tuesday, the PSCA organised a training session for the 50 front desk officers from Lahore on body worn cameras. The training was organized and conducted by Punjab Safe Cities Authority Head Office Qurban Line Lahore.
The trainers of PSCA trained the front desk officers about the use and functionalities of cameras.
The body worn cameras' (BWCs) live feed can be viewed on the Safe City screen. Front Desk officers’ behaviour with applicants can also be monitored through these cameras.
The purpose of installing the body worn cameras is to improve the availability and behaviour of the front desk officers said Communication Officer Tayyab Sattar.
The Complaint Management System was introduced by Punjab Police in 2016 across Punjab to ensure a conducive environment of the public visiting police stations. Hi-tech front desks or reception rooms with comfortable seating arrangements with civilian staff have been established throughout Punjab.
CCTV cameras were installed in these front desks rooms these were connected to the Central Police Office (CPO), divisional SP, CPO, DPO, CCPO and RPO offices.
