Makers of Shahid Kapoor's 'Jersey' face plagiarism accusations
Shahid Kapoor starrer Jersey, which is among the most awaited Bollywood releases of the year, is making headlines for all the wrong reasons today.
Previously slated to release on April 14, the sports drama has been postponed once again, and will now be releasing on April 22. And while that is disappointing, as per the recent update, Jersey makers have been accused of plagiarism, according to a report published in the Times of India.
Writer Rajneesh Jaiswal has filed a case against the makers of Jersey and alleged that the story and script of the film belong to him. The matter is in court as of now and makers are yet to comment on the situation.
For the uninitiated, the Gowtam Tinnanuri directorial is claimed to be the remake of the National Award-winning Telugu sports drama Jersey starring superstar Nani and Shraddha Srinath in the lead. Meanwhile, the makers of the sports drama haven’t revealed the reason for the shift in the release of Jersey but it is likely that the now, legal matter, may need to be prioritised.
To note, this is not the first time that Jersey has been postponed. The film was earlier slated to release in December last year, however, it was postponed owing to the significant rise in the Covid-19 cases across the country, as per Pinkvilla.
Jersey stars Shahid Kapoor as a cricketer for the first time on the big screen. Apart from Shahid, the film will also feature Mrunal Thakur and Pankaj Kapur in titular roles.
