RAWALPINDI:

Drug addicts have swarmed the old and abandoned building of the Westridge police station.

The Westridge police station has now been shifted to a rented building in Darbar Shah Piyara.

Police plan to construct a new building at the same location, however, work on the project could not be started.

The police have not shifted the seized items including dozens of cars, motorcycles, a bus, spare parts, electrical transformers, used goods, apparel, warm blankets, beds and crockery are still lying in the emptied building without security.

Drug addicts have started roaming and sleeping in rooms of the now-abandoned building as no security has been put in place to safeguard the valuable seizures.

Sources said that parts of many of these impounded motorcycles and vehicles have also been missing. Drug addicts and other people from nearby settlements steal spare parts while taking advantage of the lack of security. A large number of tyres and other parts of cars and motorcycles have been removed and sold.

Some of these cars and motorcycles were stolen, some were impounded for having forged or tampered documents, and some were reduced to scrap in accidents and some non-customs paid, but all have one thing in common — they are well past their use-by date.

Locals said that action should be taken against drug addicts where peddlers often show up to sell contrabands to them. They said that the drug supply in the area could have bearing on vulnerable children.

Citizens said that when they stop drug addicts from entering the building they began to quarrel. The locals appealed to the City Police Office to take immediate notice of the issue and the theft of spare parts and valuable items from the vacated building.
